ATTICA, Ind. – Paul D. Miller, 56, of the Independence community on Attica Route 2, died about six and a half hours after being injured in a two-vehicle accident on Riverside Road two miles north of Attica. State Police report the accident occurred at 4:12 p.m. Monday when a pick-up truck driven by Walter E. Johnson of Williamsport reportedly crossed the center line and struck the Miller auto. Both men were taken to Home Hospital in Lafayette where Mr. Miller died about 10:50 p.m. Johnson had a broken jaw and face and leg lacerations. He is in satisfactory condition today, according to a hospital spokesman. Mr. Miller was born May 20, 1918, in Casey, Ill., the son of Vaughn and Maude Lashbrook Miller. He had formerly lived in the West Point area and had moved to Independence about 25 years ago. On April 9, 1949, in Michigan City, he married Joan Martin, who survives. He attended school at Wingate and was an engineer of power house at Harrison Steel Castings Company in Attica for the past 23 years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Air Force. He attended the Methodist Church. Other survivors include his mother of Idaville, Ill.; three daughters, Mrs. Steve (Joyce) Ranson of Attica, Mrs. Mark (Patty) Campbell of Independence and Mrs. Dave (Vaula) Dinwiddie of Lafayette; three sisters. Mrs. John Cooper of Covington, Mrs. Hazel Scott of Idaville and Mrs. Fairy Smith of Logansport; five brothers, Kenneth of St. Louis, Mo., Jack of West Point, Oscar of Lafayette, and Wayne and James, both of Idaville; and four grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Dale Maus Funeral Home with the Rev. John Covely officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. = jlr

Paul D. Miller, Rt. 2, Attica, died 10:50 p.m. Monday at Home Hospital, Lafayette, of injuries suffered in a head-on crash on riverside blacktop at 4:12 p.m. Monday. He was 56.
According to Indiana State Police, Miller was southbound on the blacktop when, for an unknown reason a northbound pickup driven by Walter E. Johnson, 33, Williamsport, crossed the centerline and struck the 1974 Miller car. Both vehicles were totaled.
The victim suffered a severe head laceration, internal injuries and a fractured hip. Johnson received a broken jaw and facial and leg lacerations and was hospitalized at Home Hospital.
State Trooper, Bill Burnworth indicated an arrest is pending.
Paul D. Miller was born at Casey, Ill., on May 20, 1918, the son of Vaughn and Maude L. Lashbrook Miller. He formerly lived in the West Point area and had been a resident of Independence the past 25 years.
He was married April 9, 1949, in Michigan City to Joan Martin, who survives. Miller, Idaville; three daughters, Mrs. Steve (Joyce) Ransom, Attica; Mrs. Mark (Patty) Campbell, Independence; Mrs. Dave (Paula) Dinwiddie, Lafayette; three sisters, Mrs. John Cooper, Covington; Mrs. Hazel Scott, Idaville; Mrs. Fairy Smith, Logansport; five brothers, Kenneth Miller, St. Louis, Mo.; Jack Miller, West Point; Oscar Miller, Lafayette; Wayne Miller and James Miller, both of Idaville. Also surviving are four grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Dale Maus Funeral Home in Attica from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Services will be there in the chapel on Thursday at 2 p.m. with Rev. John Covely officiating. The VFW Post will perform military rites at the graveside.
